How I Met Reggae

Life is an interesting journey over hills and through valleys. Sometimes you feel like giving up and other times, you strong like a lion. People can have a lot of influence on your happiness, which can destroy you. My journey through life, the most important part which caused joy and pain, began here.

It must have been when I was around 16, rebellious, and a bit confused. My hair was long and henna red, my favorite colour was purple. I was ready to suck up anything different and exotic like a sponge. My sister's boyfriend said, "You need to go and see this reggae band, Black Uhuru." My only previous touchpoint with reggae was when I stood at my open room window some years prior, listening to the sounds of the near by open-air concert at the Reitstadion in Riem. Bob Marley was on stage - so my neighbour told me. So a few years later, I found myself at Circus Krone in Munich for a life changing experience. Black Uhuru is perhaps one of the most hardcore reggae bands, which is reflected in their music and lyrics. I felt the vibe, the bass, the drums, the voices...and I got hooked. After that, no show missed me. No club night missed me. It has followed me through life - sweet reggae music.
